An Austrian phenomenon: Since its release, the musical film 'The Sound of Music' has lured millions of fans to the city of Salzburg and its surroundings. While the whole world, from the US to Asia, has been singing along the catchy melodies and songs for over forty years, Austrians haven’t taken much notice of the film that was Julie Andrews’ big breakthrough. Although based on true events in their city, hardly any of the locals know about the von Trapp family or The Sound of Music, which have made the city of Salzburg and its surroundings a top tourist destination.
